Troops regain control on parts of Buner: Iftikhar
Updated at: 2100 PST, Thursday, May 14, 2009
PESHAWAR: NWFP Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain Thursday said the number of registered IDPs from Malakand has leaped over one million while 500,000 are still waiting to be registered.

Talking to media here, the Minister said normalcy has restored in different parts of Buner up to Dagar area where, he added, the security forces have regained complete control.

He said one million people have become confined to Swat due to the curfew in the valley.

“The government is making its all out efforts to provide every possible facility to the IDPs taking refuge inside and outside the camps,” he said, adding these camps will be electrified within the next 24 hours.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain opposed the raising of power tariff by 86 paisas per unit by NEPRA, saying the provincial government rejects the decision.
