WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama Wednesday heads back to a political home away from home in Iowa to tout alternative energies on Earth Day, in a state which nurtured his historic White House quest.
After several globe-trotting trips to Europe and Latin America, the president will travel to the American Midwest to highlight the state's prime role in green energy development, a week before he marks his first 100 days in office.
Obama was set to tour a factory that makes towers for wind turbines in Newton, outside state capital Des Moines, where he based an early nominating effort that ended up taking the United States by storm.
The president was to highlight his program to promote clean energy technologies designed to end US dependence on foreign oil and to develop alternative energies and create millions of US jobs, the White House said.
