Sheikhupura: people protest against unscheduled loadshedding
Updated at: 1925 PST, Wednesday, October 22, 2008
SHEIKHUPURA: Protests continued in different cities of Punjab against the unannounced and prolonged loadshedding on Wednesday.

The enraged protestors tried to attack the office of a Superintendent Engineer in Sheikhupura, following which extra contingent of police was deployed at all Wapda offices in the city.

Residents of Sheikhupura held protest demonstrations in front of Wapda offices against prolonged power outage and overbilling. They also set the electricity bills on fire and attacked the office of a Superintendent Engineer. However, police avoided the attack.

Protestors blocked Lahore-Faisalabad road which resulted in heavy traffic jam. Police held successful talks with the protestors to restore the traffic.

Meanwhile, traders observed complete shutter down strike in Sargodha and blocked railway track at Nikalwala in protest against the loadshedding. Besides, small traders and business community of Burewala also protested against the Wapda and announced to hold payments of bill till withdrawal of decision of power tariff hike by the government.

On the other hand, protests were also reported in Kasoor, Gujrat, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Nankana Sahib and Chakwal.
