2 hideouts destroyed in military action in Swat
Updated at: 2215 PST, Friday, November 16, 2007
SWAT: The gunship helicopters have wiped out the two hideouts of militants by bombing here, however, no loss of life was reported.

Sources told that the gunship helicopters of the security forces resorted to heavy firings at Sar Senai, Kabal, Hazara, Koza Banda, Dherai Kanju and Mam Dehrai areas here, while the militants tried to target the gunships by rocket launchers, which triggered bombing by gunships destroying militants’ two posts at Sar Senai and on the bank of the river. Several houses were also damaged in this operation. The gunships also dropped bombs at Nangoi, Bandi and Fiza Ghat’s mountains, but no loss of life was reported.

The people here due to this stand off have confined themselves to their houses, which has paralyzed day-to-day life here. On the other hand, the militants claim to caught one spy at Koza Bandi area here.

Chief military spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad said US-built Cobra choppers Friday pounded two "miscreant" bunkers as well as mountain positions near the airport at Saidu Sharif, one of the main towns in the area.

"We launched retaliatory fire. We intercepted the militant communications which confirmed they lost 40 men," Arshad said, adding that he had no details of casualties for Friday's fighting. He said a leading militant commander named Matiullah was among the dead.

In another part of the valley, troops dug in overnight and launched new attacks against a "heavy presence of miscreants who are occupying various heights" along one of the main roads leading toward China, Arshad said.

Addressing the journalists in Swat, PID Deputy Director Amjad Iqbal said gunship helicopters of the security forces resorted to heavy firings and destroyed two hideouts of militants in Najia mountains and two double-cabin vehicles and bunkers in Dheri Check posts.

According to police, the announcement has been made that curfew would be imposed from 2am at night lying between Friday and Saturday to 2pm on Saturday in Malakand Agency and Swat.
