Bannu rocket attacks claim 8 lives

  BANNU: Eight persons including a woman were killed and 41 were wounded in rocket attacks in Bannu town of NWFP, provincial chief minister and hospital sources said.

According to eyewitnesses, unidentified miscreants fired rockets at various targets in Bannu on the midnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.

A rocket landed at a house in tehsil Gali setting it on fire. Before long, people from neighbourhood arrived to extinguish the fire, another rocket hit the people engaged in relief activities at the location.

Chief Minister of NWFP Akram Khan Durrani has confirmed eight deaths in the rocket attacks.

The injured were rushed to the hospitals, where emergency has been declared.

In-charge Medical Superintendent Bannu District Hospital Dr. Shahabuddin has confirmed that eight people were died and 41 were hurt in the incident including six policemen.

The hospital doctors have conducted six surgeries and five wounded persons have been transferred to Peshawar, he further said. Five others have been discharged from the hospital after medical aid, he added.

According to hospital sources five injured were in a critical condition.
