Shahbaz leaves for UK for ‘talks’

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is proceeding to the United Kingdom Thursday (today) on three-day private visit where he is expected to meet with British Foreign Minister David Miliband and MQM chief Altaf Hussain to discuss with them political development in Pakistan. Shahbaz is visiting UK and London at a time when political scenario in Pakistan is riddled with speculations regarding fate of PPP government in Islamabad. The political circles privy to Shahbaz have confirmed that chief minister, unlike past is going London exclusively on private visit where he would meet important UK dignitaries including David Miliband. Shahbaz had gone to the UK a month back on one week visit for medical check-up.
14 militants held in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: The police claimed to have arrested 14 militants and recovered explosives from their possession in various parts of the district. DSP Sahibzada Muhammad Sharif told reporters on Wednesday the police conducted raids in different parts of the district and nabbed 14 militants.
Inspection of The Nation’s record ordered

LAHORE: Justice Mian Saqib Nisar of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday appointed a commission to inspect the record of The Nation Publications (Pvt) Ltd, on an interim application in Arif Nizami’s petition, seeking winding up of the media group and challenging his dismissal as editor of daily The Nation by his uncle Majid Nizami. The judge directed the commissioner, Ms Seema Munawar advocate, to inspect The Nation’s record on Thursday (today) at 10am in the presence of the petitioner’s counsel Shahid Saeed advocate and counsel for the respondent Sheikh Naveed Masud. The judge issued the order after hearing arguments of Arif Nizami’s counsels Aitzaz Ahsan and Abid Minto. The next date of hearing was fixed on January 8.
Bhagwandas new FPSC chairman
