| US asked to take Pakistan into confidence on Afghan policy |

KABUL: President Asif Ali Zardari has asked the US to take Pakistan on board regarding its new policy on Afghanistan, as it would also have an impact on Pakistan.
He expressed these views while talking to US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton on Thursday. Host of issues came under discussion like Pak-US relations, war against terrorism, new US policy relating to Afghanistan and other security matters.
Both the leaders met on the occasion of the oath-taking ceremony of Hamid Karzai. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has been sworn in for a second five-year term during a ceremony in Kabul.
Diplomatic sources told Online that President Zardari urged the US secretary of State that the US must take Pakistan into confidence on new policy regarding Afghanistan as there was vast impact and direct link to Pakistan’s security situation if things turned bad in Afghanistan.
Hillary Clinton assured that the new policy would be shared with Pakistan’s political and military leadership and any reservations would be reviewed in length. She said that it was a dire need to root out terrorism and extremism from the country, as it was a threat to all the three countries Pakistan, Afghanistan and the US.
President Zardari said that Pakistan paid a heavy price in war against terrorism and the entire world knew that by now. He urged the international community to lend a hand and financially support Pakistan in this hour of need. He further added that stable and peaceful Afghanistan was in the prime interest of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, first Vice President of Iran Mohammad Reza Rahimi called on President Asif Ali Zardari and discussed matters of mutual interest, especially the security situation in the region.
President Zardari while discussing the security situation in the region with the Iranian leader expressed his resolve to continue pursuing fight against terrorism and extremism. Both the leaders agreed to enhance their cooperation in the fight against terrorism for the regional stability and peace in the world.
The Iranian first vice president appreciated Pakistan’s contribution for the regional peace and acknowledged the sacrifices made by it in this regard. Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari met British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and discussed security situation in the region.
President Zardari expressed his resolve to continue pursuing fight against terrorism and extremism. He said Pakistan was making concerted efforts for the stability of the region.
Miliband appreciated Pakistan’s contribution to ensure regional peace and mentioned huge sacrifices made by it in this regard. He said the United Kingdom would continue supporting Pakistan in overcoming the challenges being faced by it.
