| 23 terrorists slain in Orakzai, SWA |

KALAYA/TANK/PESHAWAR: Eighteen militants were killed as fighter jets targeted their hideouts in the Orakzai Agency, while five more insurgents were killed in the ongoing operation Rah-e-Nijat in the South Waziristan Agency (SWA) on Sunday.
Official sources said the fighter jets targeted 11 positions of the militants in Mamozai, Dabori, Khadezai, Mazidghari and Ghiljo areas of the Orakzai Agency twice in the day. In the bombardment, 18 militants were reportedly killed on the spot while 10 others sustained injuries. The sources said the tribesmen in the agency were moving to safer places as security forces had intensified attacks against the militants.
In South Waziristan, security forces claimed killing five militants in Ahmadwam village on the Jandola-Srarogha Road. Military sources said an exchange of fire took place between security forces and the militants during a search operation in Ahmadwam that resulted in the killing of five terrorists.
The sources said the troops cleared the villages of Shavazai, Khaznikai and Odin Sar on the road between Jandola and Srarogha. A cache of arms was recovered in the Tiarza area on the Shakai-Kaniguram Road, where security forces are conducting a search operation in the hunt for militants and their hideouts as well as training centres and ammunition depots. Four roadside bombs were recovered and defused by the bomb disposal squad of the Army during a search operation on the Razmak-Makeen Road. Security forces also established a check-post in the Shawal Algad area on the same route.
The sources said the troops cleared the Ladha Bridge and recovered arms and ammunition during the operation in the same area. They said the militants launched a rocket attack on security forces in the Tauda Cheena area. However, no casualty was reported in the attack.
The political administration officials told The News that the troops were combing suspected places in Srarogha, Anger Killay and Wucha Khwar for arms and suspected militants. A similar operation was also underway in Shah Wazai, Kazha Kach and Tora Teeka areas. Fighter jets bombed the Taliban hideouts in Piazha, Wozai Kach and the adjacent areas, but there were no reports about casualties or material losses.
The sources said the troops had secured Khaisur Killay, Ahmad Gul Killay, Torwam Bridge and Michikhel Killay in their advance from the Wana side. They were searching suspected houses and hideouts in those areas.
Almost all the residents in those areas have left their villages and reached safer places in the districts of Tank and Dera Ismail Khan and the neighbouring tribal agency of North Waziristan. The political administration sources said a heavy exchange of fire was reported between the militants and security forces in the Maroobi area of Makeen, but there was no word on the casualties on either side.
The sources said both sides used heavy and light arms during the clash. They said the national flag had been hoisted on a hilltop in Asman Manza. The troops also fired artillery shells on suspected Taliban hideouts from the high ground of the Razmak military camp in North Waziristan.
