People display anti-Taliban banners in Kabal

MINGORA: Twelve more militants were killed in clashes with security forces in Karakar and Shamozai Gharai while 14 bodies were found dumped in Charbagh’s Gulibagh area in the Swat Valley on Sunday.
It was the second consecutive day that clashes between security forces and militants were reported from the restive valley.Eight casualties of militants were reported from Charbagh on Saturday when security forces claimed killing them in a clash during a search operation in Ashar Banr and Nala areas.
On Sunday, security forces killed 12 more militants in two different areas of the valley. Four militants were killed in a gunfight in the Shamozai Gharai area. Eight bodies were recovered from Karakar, a mountain connecting Swat and Buner districts, while 14 bodies were found in the Gulibagh area. The bodies dumped in Karakar and Gulibagh areas were stated to be of militants.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said 12 terrorists were killed in Karakar Banda, Ilam Saand, Ashar Banr and Gari Shamozai. It said the militants were killed during a search operation. The ISPR said two suspected militants were arrested from Shalpin and seven others surrendered to security forces in Charbagh, Roria and Zarakhela. There was no mention in the ISPR press release about the bodies recovered from the Gulibagh area of Charbagh Tehsil.
The 14 slain persons in Gulibagh were identified as Gulshan, Muhammad Darwesh, Momin Khan, Fazl-e-Subhan, Rahmat Ali, Nausherwan, Muhammad Amin, Gul Zameen, Habib, Fazl Karim, Akhtar Ali, Syed Nawab, Nazar Ahmad and Rahimullah.
Bodies recovered in Karakar were identified as Ajab Khan, Muhammad Yousaf, Sultan Ghani, Khan Khaliq, Maarifat Shah, Zahid Hussain, Rahman Ali and Muqaddar.
In a surprising development, unknown men displayed anti-Taliban banners at roadsides and other locations in several areas of Kabal Tehsil. The banners contained some slogans against the Taliban and Maulana Fazlullah. “Where is the shameless Fazlullah?” one of the banners asked.
Some other slogans written on the banners were “Muslim Khan is No-1 among unscrupulous people”, “Taliban’s friend is nation’s foe”, “The movement of Taliban is virtually the movement of oppressors”, and “Stop bomb blasts and suicide as Haram.” The display of the anti-Taliban banners surprised the people and triggered speculations.
