| Accepting a key post should not bother anyone: Aitzaz |

LAHORE: Former president of Supreme Court Bar Association, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has said it is by no means an objectionable act to hold an office of the government and if he qualifies for a specific post, it shouldn’t bother any of his critics.
Barrister Aitzaz expressed these views while talking to the media after a ceremony held here on Monday. Aitzaz said he was being asked by certain people about the details of meetings with the president and the prime minister, but he will request them not to put such questions as it will give them sleepless nights.
Aitzaz said the prime minister telephoned him when he was in America and after his return, he held meetings with the prime minister and the president, wherein important issues were discussed.
He said after abolition of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), all criminal cases had to be reopened, but the fate of the National Accountability Bureau cases would be decided by the Supreme Court. He said he wanted to suggest to all those who were facilitated by the NRO to get themselves bailed out from the courts.
To a query, Aitzaz said under Section 2 of Article 248 of the Constitution, no court was authorised to summon the president and the governor till they were holding their offices. He said his membership of the Central Executive Committee had been suspended, but as he was still affiliated with the party, he would comply with the party orders whenever he is called by the leadership.
He said Pervez Musharraf introduced the NRO on October 6, 2007 and it ended on February 4, 2008. Those who succeeded in getting their cases abolished under the NRO could not be challenged. However, those who got their criminal cases abolished after introduction of the NRO would have to go to the courts to get themselves bailed out.
