Heirs of PC victims get cheques

MANSEHRA: Provincial Minister for Food Shujah Salim Khan Sunday distributed cheques to the families of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) employees killed in PC hotel bombing. Shuja Salim Khan distributed Rs100,000 cheques among the families of Mohammad Miskin and Mohammad Tahir, officials of the UNFPA.
Lashkar kidnaps three militants in Darra

KOHAT: The Darra Adamkhel-based armed Lashkar kidnapped three accomplices of a militant commander in the area on Sunday. Sources said the members of the anti-Taliban Lashkar organised by Momin Khan Afridi picked the three close aides of Tariq Manikhel, commander of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Darra Adamkhel chapter. One of the kidnapped militants was identified as Anzar Gul while the names of the other two could not be ascertained. Sources said two members of the Lashkar were killed by the militants in the Akhorwal area few days ago. Meanwhile, security forces dismantled a hideout of the militants in Tor Chappar area of Darra Adamkhel.
JI Jirga urges shooting down drones

ISLAMABAD: A national Jirga organised by the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has demanded of the government to issue directives for shooting down the US drones violating the country’s airspace and immediately stopping the military operation going on in different parts of the country. The Jirga was attended by JI Central Amir Syed Munawwar Hasan, ex-Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Secretary General Liaquat Baloch, Naib Amirs and Senators Prof Muhammad Ibrahim and Prof Khurshid Ahmad and around 100 JI leaders from all over the country.
20 Taliban killed in Afghanistan
HERAT: Military operations by Afghan and foreign forces in western Afghanistan have killed 20 Taliban rebels, Abdul Bashir Ghori, the army spokesman said on Sunday. He said that two civilians were also killed. Afghan army, police and Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops launched coordinated operations overnight in the provinces of Farah and Badghis. The joint forces attacked insurgent positions in Gulistan district of Farah, killing 15 Taliban militants, Ghori said.
Two Afghans held, heroin recovered

LANDIKOTAL: Security forces foiled a bid to smuggle heroin and arrested two Afghan nationals at the Torkham border on Sunday. Official sources said they recovered four kilogrammes of heroin from the luggage of an Afghan national, Khanmadar. The heroin was concealed in a ghee tin and was being smuggled into Pakistan via Torkham border, the sources said. Political administrations detained Khanmadar and Eman Jan (13) and sent them to the Landikotal lock up for investigation.
Women protest arrests in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A group of women on Sunday protested outside the City Police Station against the arrest of what they said were 59 innocent citizens. They said police were arresting and harassing innocent people in the name of search operation. The women said the police kept the arrested persons in unlawful custody for a few days and then released them while the unabated crimes were on the rise in the city.
Family robbed at Khairpur Railway Station

KHAIRPUR: A family was robbed at the Khairpur Railway Station here on Sunday. The family of Matloob Hussain Korai was waiting at the railway station for a train to go to Karachi. In the meantime, armed men arrived and made them hostage at gunpoint. They deprived the family of gold, cash, mobile phones and other valuables.
Bomb defused in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: An explosive device, planted by unidentified militants on main Indus Highway near Matani, was defused by the bomb disposal squad on Sunday. The explosive was connected with a remote control device. Some passers-by informed the police after spotting the explosives.
Al-Qaeda financier arrested in Yemen
SANAA: Yemeni authorities have arrested the financier of al-Qaeda operations in the country and in neighbouring Saudi Arabia, an official said on Sunday, as cited on the defence ministry news website. “The arrested man is named Hassan Hussein bin Alwan, a Saudi national, and he is the financier for attacks launched by al-Qaeda organisation in Yemen and Saudi Arabia,” the unnamed security official told September Net website. “He is considered one of the most dangerous members of al-Qaeda,” he added.
