Rain lashes Lahore

LAHORE: One person was killed and 11 others were injured in building collapse incidents in provincial metropolis as rain continued on second consecutive day on Saturday.

Six employees of a paint manufacturing factory on Bund Road were injured when its roof collapsed. They were taken to hospital where Muhammad Shakeel succumbed to injuries.

In another incident five teenage cousins sustained injuries when roof of their house collapsed in Bogiwal, Mughalpura. They were identified as Nadeem, Naveed, Rashid , Shera and Adnan. They were shifted to Services Hospital.

Four houses collapsed in Ichhara, Lohari, Bibi Pak Daman and Bhatti Gate areas. However, there were no causalities as these houses had already been vacated in view of their dilapidated condition.

Local Met office recorded 63 mm rain in city and 45mm rain at the airport. The rain was continuing till the filing of this report at 8pm on Saturday.

Lahorites faced grave hardships as thoroughfares even in posh areas presented look of rivulets. The city had also received heavy down pour on Thursday. After overnight's lull, it again started early Friday morning. As a number of low lying localities were rendered impassable and many roads in posh areas turned into streams, attendance in schools and offices remained thin. Business activities in the city were also badly affected and markets presented deserted look with people preferring to remain indoor as even main roads were submerged in knee deep water.
