Contempt notices issued to IS, Pemra chief

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to the federal information secretary and the Pemra chairman on a contempt plea in connection with the imposition of ban on programmes of some TV channels. One Iqbal Kazmi had filed a petition in the SHC, taking the plea that the Pemra had submitted an affidavit in the court in 2007 that no ban would be slapped on the media or any channel. However, now the government and the Pemra, in sheer violation of their undertaking on oath, had shut down some programmes of certain television channels.



Bhagwandas assumes charge of chairman FPSC

ISLAMABAD: New chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) Justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas assumed his office here on Thursday. Officers and other staff members of the FPSC warmly welcomed the new chairman upon his arrival at his office. Justice Bhagwandas will start performing his duties after Eid.



Border at Killa Saifullah sealed

QUETTA: Border security forces in Killa Saifullah have sealed the Pak-Afghan border in order to halt illegal entry of people into Pakistan from Afghanistan. In the view of allegations that Taliban enter Afghanistan from Pakistan and return to Pakistani areas, higher authorities have ordered to seal the border. Law enforcement officials have directed security forces personnel to keep a vigil at the border and not allow illegal entry of people into both countries.



Carjacker killed

MARDAN: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a carjacker and dumped his body near the Khadu Bridge on Wednesday night. Sources said unidentified persons had killed the alleged carjacker Ayub.
