Proceedings against Zardari's dual offices today

LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court will resume hearing on Wednesday (today) on two identical petitions, challenging President Asif Ali Zardari's holding office of co-chairman of the PPP and seeking directives for the government to make the president surrender his political office. The petitioners, AK Dogar of the Pakistan Lawyers Forum and Asif Mehmood advocate, submitted that President Zardari was holding the office of the PPP's co-chairperson in violation of Article 41 (1) of the Constitution The petitioners submitted that President Zardari should act as head of the state and representative of the unity of the republic and not the head of any political government.



Jatoi's Soyem today

KHAIRPUR: Soyem of former caretaker prime minister Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi will be held in New Jatoi today (Wednesday) with the prime minister and other dignitaries attending it. Meanwhile, people from different walks of life continued to condole with Jatoi's sons, Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi and Masroor Jatoi, on the death of their father. Provincial minister Manzoor Wasan, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly Jam Madad Ali and other dignitaries paid rich tributes to late Mustafa Jatoi.

Poor father throws son into canal

HYDERABAD: A poverty-stricken father threw his seven-year-old son into the Pinyari Canal in the limits of the Tando Yusuf police station late on Monday night. According to police, Shafiq Rajput, a retired military official, was a resident of Tandojam and presently living in Latifabad Unit 11 of Hyderabad at his sister's house. He was jobless since long and had tried self-immolation twice. His wife, a psychiatric patient, was taken away by her brothers. Shafiq had been asking his relatives to support his son but when he found no option he threw Salman into the canal. Later, he went to the Tandojam police station and told the police that he had killed his son. The body was fished out on Tuesday afternoon.









Four die in road crash

KHAIRPUR: Four people were killed and eight injured at the Khairpur Bypass near Therhi in a collision between a passenger wagon and an NLC trailer. The wagon was bound for Sukkur and the trailer for Khairpur when the collision occurred in the limits of the Beberloi police station of Khairpur. Four wagon passengers died on the spot. Police and ambulances shifted the dead and injured to the Civil Hospital, Khairpur. Emergency was declared in the hospital where volunteers rushed to donate blood.The dead were identified as Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Rab Dino, Abid and Maharuddin. Police have arrested the driver of the NLC trailer.







Toy bomb kills boy

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A minor was killed and his sister sustained injuries when a toy bomb exploded in a house in the Baranabad area here on Tuesday. Sources said a minor, Azeem, found a ‘toy’ in the street and brought it to his home. He was playing with the device, when it exploded, killing him on the spot, the sources said. His younger sister, Shumaila, was wounded in the explosion.
