| LAHORE THE provincial Environment Protection Department (EPD) directed all the district governments to take special cleanliness measures in their respective areas during Eidul Azha. EPD officials said that the Secretary EPD wrote letters to all the District Coordination Officers (DCOs) to chalk out comprehensive cleanliness plans including lifting of animal wastage and dung. The Secretary said that animal waste and dung left on roads would cause serious health risks and were very dangerous for the environment. Animal dung left on roads dries with the passage of time and became a potential source of various infections for the road users, EPD officials said. They said the Secretary also asked the DCOs to impose a complete ban on the burning Siree and Payees (heads and feet) of sacrificial animals along the roads. They said this caused health problems too. On the other hand, City District Government Lahore (CDGL) announced a cleanliness plan. Last year, District Nazim Lahore imposed section 144 in the provincial capital on throwing sacrificial animals offal and burning heads and feet of the animals during Eidul Azha. |
