| Taseer affirms Musharraf-era bills passed by PA |

| Lahore Punjab Governor Salman Taseer has affirmed all the nine bills, promulgated by former president Pervez Musharraf, and, recently, passed by the provincial assembly in its 15th session. According to a press release issued by the Punjab Assembly here Thursday, these ordinances were issued as a result of declaring of emergency by Musharraf on November- 3. Afterwards, an amendment 270-AAA was inserted in the Constitution, protecting the illegal acts of the dictator. The Supreme Court in its judgment declared the imposition of emergency illegal and unconstitutional and referred these directives to the assemblies to decide their fate. The provincial assembly in its 15th session approved all these nine bills and referred them to the governor for further approval. The bills approved by the governor included Punjab Rental Property Bill 2009, Punjab Procurement Bill 2009, Punjab Welfare Fund for Employees (amendment) Bill 2009, Punjab Fisheries amendment Bill 2009, Hitec University of Texila Bill 2009, Punjab Katchi Abadis amendment Bill 2009, Prohibition of Kite Flying amendment Bill 2009, Punjab Motor vehicle amendment Bill 2009 and Punjab Motor vehicle amendment Bill 2009. Polish ambassador meets Taseer: Polish Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Krzysztof Debnicki called on Punjab Governor Salmam Taseer at the Governor House’s on Thursday. Various matters pertaining to mutual ties were discussed. While welcoming the Polish ambassador, the governor said that Pakistan was a land of saints who always taught peace, harmony and love. He said terrorists had no relation with Islam as they were killing innocent people. He said Pakistan had a vibrant, tolerant Muslim society having highly sophisticated middle class. |
