KARACHI: Leaders Navy and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) were given a walkover in the Pakistan Premier Football League matches after their respective rivals Afghan FC and Nushki’s Baloch FC could not turn up here as a protest against the decision of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) to shift their home matches from Balochistan to Karachi.

Interestingly, the Director Operations of the Balochistan Football Association (BFA) Haji Saeed questioned the walkover as according to him he had sent few officials to the venues in Karachi on Wednesday where the matches were scheduled to be held and they found that the teams who were given walkover against the Balochistan-based outfits were not present at the venue before the kick-off time along with the match commissioners.

“According to the walkover rules, walkover would be given against the team which will not turn up for the showdown. I don’t know if both the contestants were not present then how walkover rules could be applied,” Haji Saeed said.

When ‘The News’ contacted match commissioner Qamar Yar who was serving here at the KPT Benazir Sports Complex, he said, “I along with other officials was present at the venue. The Navy team had also arrived and we gave walkover to them after their opponents Afghan FC did not reach.”

But interestingly, Asif Zaheer, who was serving as match commissioner at the Korangi Baloch Football Ground in Sharafi Goth tried to avoid talking to ‘The News’ and twice did not receive the phone call of this correspondent after he once received but remained silent.

Meanwhile, a protest demonstration led by Haji Saeed was held in Chaman to condemn the decision of the PFF to move the home matches of Afghan FC and Nushki’s Baloch FC to Karachi.

“We protested here in Chaman and our next step would be to record our protest in front of the Chief Minister House and Governor House in Quetta in the next few days,” Haji Saeed told ‘The News’.

“The officials of the BFA are united over the issue and we will not take rest as efforts are being made to completely isolate us in the field of football,” the official said.

He said there is also the possibility that the officials of the BFA boycott the Congress meeting of the PFF which would be held in Lahore on December 30.
