UoP teachers protesting VC kidnapping today

PESHAWAR: The women staffers of the University of Peshawar (UoP) would stage a walk today (Thursday) to protest the kidnapping of vice-chancellor of the Kohat University of Science, Prof Dr Lutfullah Kakakhel, who remained untraced even after a lapse of about two weeks.

Unknown people picked up the VC on November 6. No group has so far claimed the kidnapping.

The security forces have made repeated claims to have conducted many raids on different hideouts in the previous several days and arrested more than a dozen suspected people and some tribesmen and impounded several vehicles to ensure recovery of the VC.

Academicians, heads of all the universities, students and people from different walks of life have expressed serious concern over the kidnapping. They have appealed to the government to take all measures for an early and safe recovery of the VC.

The female staffers of the UoP under the aegis of Peshawar University Teachers Association would stage a protest walk today (Thursday) to press the government and the security forces to expedite their efforts for the recovery of the vice-chancellor.

The walk would start from Teacher Community Centre/ PUTA Office and end at the main gate of the university.

The march would be followed by a press conference by the PUTA office-bearers at the press club at 1 p.m.
