PESHAWAR: October was considered to be the worst month for NWFP, Fata and the entire country, but the first half of November proved to be more violent, having no precedent in the past.

Five suicide blasts in eight days alone in the provincial capital has paralysed the life in the city and surrounding areas. There is fear and terror all over the city where the dwellers have stopped visiting bazaars and crowded places.

The first week of the month was relatively peaceful. The first major terror incident happened when a suicide bomber attacked nazim of the Adezai Union Council and head of Qaumi Lashkar in Matani on November 8. Not only nazim Abdul Malik was killed but 19 other innocent people also lost their lives in the attack.

Another suicide bomber struck the very next day, November 9. Three persons including a cop were killed in the attack on Ring Road, Latifabad. Though it was calm on third day in Peshawar, another suicide bomber struck the nearby Charsadda district with killing around 30 people and injuring dozens other.

A senior official of the Iranian Consulate in Peshawar Abul Hassan Jafferi was shot dead in Gulberg on November 12.

Friday, as usual, proved fatal. Peshawarites were asleep when a huge blast rocked not only the capital city of NWFP but also the nearby districts. This time the terrorists targeted the regional headquarters of the Inter Services Intelligence on Khyber Road.

Twelve people were killed in the attack and several wounded but the destruction was colossal. The nearby buildings completely caved in while others within a kilometer radius suffered massive damage.

The same day another suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into a police station in Bannu to kill eight people.

The violence continued with another suicide blast on Ring Road in Pishtakhara Chowk on Sunday where 14 persons were killed and several wounded. This attack was also on the security post.

The last attack was near the Badaber Police Station on Monday, November 16, where three persons were killed. A nearby mosque, section of the Badaber Police Station and some other nearby buildings were razed to ground in the blast.
