| KHAIRPUR: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said on Tuesday that the “media trial” of President Asif Ali Zardari would not affect his image. He was talking to journalists at the Sukkur Airport before flying to Karachi. Qaim said they would respond to the “campaign against Zardari” in a political manner. He said the president was pursuing a policy of political reconciliation and playing a vital role for the country’s sovereignty but the media was portraying him as anti-democracy. He said the grievances of Balochistan and the NWFP had been addressed and the prime minister had approved the Balochistan package in this regard. He said there was no political crisis and he was not under pressure to withdraw from the demand of multiple criteria for the NFC award. The Sindh government had presented its stand on the NFC award in a comprehensive manner and the nationalists should realise that the PPP handled the NFC issue in Sindh’s interest, Qaim added. He questioned why the nationalists did not raise voice against Musharraf, who had usurped the rights of Sindh. Qaim said he was optimistic about getting the NFC issue resolved on the multiple criteria basis. He said all stakeholders will attend a meeting on the NFC award scheduled for Wednesday (today) in Karachi. In a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee, he added, all members reposed confidence in Asif Ali Zardari and condemned his media trial. Qaim also held a meeting with the American consul general here in Khairpur on Teusday. Online adds: The Sindh CM again made it clear that the PPP would fight against any “media trial” of Zardari, adding the PPP had foiled ‘such conspiracies’ in the past. |
