| One killed, 26 militants surrender |

| KHAR: Twenty-four militants surrendered to the security forces while a huge quantity of weapons was seized during a search operation in Charmang area of Bajaur’s Nawagai tehsil on Tuesday. The militants belonging to Shaida Shah, Asghar and Manogi areas in Charmang valley laid down arms and surrendered to the security forces during a jirga. Talking to reporters, the surrendering militants said that their non-local accomplices had lured them into so-called jihad against their own people and security forces. They said they repent what they had done as picking arms against their own people and security forces was wrong and un-Islamic. The militants said soldiers of the army were their brothers and they would support their endeavours for bringing lasting peace to the area. They urged the militants engaged in fighting against the security forces in Charmang and other areas of Bajaur to surrender to the government to save the people and area from further deaths and destruction. The security forces also carried search operation in various places of Charmang and recovered heavy weapons including anti-aircraft guns, machine guns, rocket launchers, Kalashnikov rifles, hand-grenades and thousands of cartridges. Meanwhile, a militant was killed and several others were injured during clashes between the security forces and militants in different areas of Nawagai and Mamond subdivisions of Bajaur Agency on Tuesday. Tribal sources said clashes took place between the security forces and militants in Mattak and Rashakai areas of Nawagai tehsil and Jangzai area of Mamond subdivision during which a militant was killed and several others were injured. The security forces also arrested a militant during search operation while three militants surrendered to the security forces in Mamond subdivision. The militants, the sources added, also surrendered arms to the security forces. |
