| ABBOTTABAD: Demanding fresh elections, the provincial chief of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Senator Muhammad Ibrahim here Sunday said the government had failed to steer the country out of crises. “The PPP and its coalition partners have no right to rule as they have failed on all fronts,” he told reporters at the Al-Markaz-e-Islami here. Other party leaders including Shabbir Ahmad Khan, Merajuddin and Abdur Razzaq were also present on the occasion. Senator Ibrahim said that innocent people were being killed just to please the US and other Western powers in the name of so-called war on terror. He also accused the US agencies of carrying out blasts in the country. “Those killing innocent people are the agents of US and have nothing to do with Islam,” he added. The JI leaders criticised the opposition parties for not raising security issues in the parliament. “The government has compromised on security of the country for a few dollars and the opposition has not yet raised the issue,” Senator Ibrahim said, adding that both the ruling and opposition leaders had succumbed to the US pressure. The JI leader said the people had rejected Musharraf’s policies but the so-called democratic government was following the same policies. He opposed military operations in South Waziristan and Malakand division, saying innocent people were being killed and displaced as the result of the operation. |
