Five-year-old killed by robbers

A five-year old boy was shot dead by robbers in a deserted area near the Northern Bypass.

According to details, Murtaza, 5, son of Munawar Hassan, a resident of Manghopir was killed by unidentified robbers when he was crossing a deserted area near Zero-Point on the Northern Bypass on motorbike with his father.

The incident took place in the limits of Surjani police station when both father and son were returning home and were signalled by some armed men to halt.

“Munawar Hassan, instead of stopping his motorbike, tried to run away, at which, a bullet was fired by the dacoits that hit the child in the stomach,” SHO Surjani police station, Javed Abbas told The News.

He said that Munawar took his injured son to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where doctors pronounced him dead.

SHO Javed Abbas said the place where the incident took place is a deserted area.

The deceased was a resident of Haji Umer Goth, Manghopir, the police official said.

It was learnt that the deceased child had two brothers and two sisters and he was the fourth child of his parents. His father is a driver by profession.

The Surjani police have registered an FIR No. 498/09 against unidentified persons under Section 302 and search is on in this regard.

In another incident, a 33-year-old man, identified as Mohammad Rafiq, son of Hanif, was killed over an old enmity within the limits of Shah Latif police station.

Police officials said that the victim was a driver with a local company and was a resident of Gulshan-e-Hadid. He was on his way home when armed men on two motorbikes intercepted him near Murghi Khana Bus stop and fled after shooting him.

They said that the injured was hit by several bullets and taken to the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police officials said that the deceased hailed from Mianwali and suspected that he might have been killed over personal enmity. No case has been registered.

In another case, a young man was knocked to death by a speeding bus within the jurisdiction of Ibrahim Hyderi police station.

Police officials said 20-year-old Ziauddin, a resident of Korangi, was on his way home when a speeding bus hit him on Mehrunisa Road near Nasir Jump bus stop and managed to flee.

Ibrahim Hyderi police said the incident took place when a bus on contract for transporting Pakistan Steel employees hit the deceased and added that the bus was impounded and its driver Abdullah was arrested.

The injured boy was taken to the JPMC where doctors pronounced him dead. Police handed over the body to the family after autopsy and registered an FIR against the driver.

In another road mishap, 30-year-old Hafeezullah, son of Muhammad Khan, was killed when he fell from a speeding New Afridi commuter coach in Metroville SITE area. He was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. —WB
