PESHAWAR: Rabia Shah, who had sustained multiple wounds in Meena Bazaar car bombing, succumbed to her injuries in Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) late Saturday night.

The 12-year-old girl had been struggling for life since she was injured in the devastating blast on October 28 at the LRH. Rabia Shah was a fourth grade student and on the fateful day she was returning home along with her teacher when the bomb ripped through the narrow bazaar.

She was an orphan and her wage-earning father had died nine days before the blast due to cardiovascular disease. She had sustained injuries in the chest, back and abdomen while her right leg was amputated.

Doctors at the LRH operated upon her several times but the life of the poor girl could not be saved. She underwent the last surgery, laparotomy, on Saturday. Though Rabia Shah has died but the brave girl is credited with saving the life of two-year-old Haroon, the son of her teacher, when they were hit in the blast.

Despite suffering injuries, she crawled several metres and got hold of Haroon and held him tight in her lap till both were retrieved from the spot by the rescue workers. Her teacher Zeenat was killed on the spot in the blast.
