Healthcare Commission for modern facilities: CM

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that an autonomous Healthcare Commission is being established in the province for the uplift of health sector and the provision of modern treatment facilities to the masses.

He was presiding over a high level meeting at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, here Saturday. Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah Khan, Secretary Health and senior officers concerned were present.

Shahbaz Sharif said the Healthcare Commission would improve the performance of public and private hospitals. Revolutionary measures are being taken to provide healthcare facilities to the common man, besides the up-gradation of rural and basic health centres, he added.

The chief minister said that Healthcare Commission would provide quality healthcare facilities to the people. He said that recommendations had been finalized in the light of the best international models in this regard.

He said the commission would yield positive results, adding resources were being utilized for the development of the health sector and billions of rupees had been allocated for the purpose during the current fiscal year.

He said that generators and air-conditioners had been installed in hospitals for the first time in the history of the country, whereas, measures were also being taken to ensure the attendance of doctors in the far-flung areas.

Efforts of the government, he said, would yield the desired results if those associated with the sector performed their responsibilities regarding service of the ailing humanity with commitment and dedication.

SUGAR SUPPLY: Shahbaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to ensure provision of sugar to the masses at the fixed rate and bring in market one and two kilograms sugar bags for convenience of consumers.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting, here on Saturday to ensure the supply of sugar at the fixed rate in the province. Provincial Minister for Food Malik Nadeem Kamran, the Additional Chief Secretary, the Inspector General Police, the Industries and Food secretaries, the Lahore commissioner, the Additional IGs (CID) and Special Branch, Cane Commissioner and other officials concerned were also participated in the meeting.

The chief minister said administration should hold meetings with Sugar Mills Association to evolve a practicable formula for the supply of sugar in the market. He said that sugar was easily available before his visit abroad and the people of all walks of life had openly admitted this fact but the consumers were now facing problems in obtaining sugar.

He said sugar mill owners should also cooperate with the government for supply of sugar to the people.

He said that he wanted easy availability of sugar to the people at the fixed rate in all markets and administration will have to discharge its responsibilities in this regard.

The persons concerned will not be spared if people faced difficulty in getting sugar. He issued instructions for stern action against the elements involved in the hoarding of sugar, saying special teams be constituted for this purpose.

The chief minister ordered formation of a committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary for negotiations with sugar mill owners.
