Ramiz strikes gold on third day for Rawalpindi

KARACHI: Pacer Muhammad Ramiz produced career-best figures to steer the once struggling Rawalpindi to a stunning 75-run win over Peshawar on the penultimate day (Thursday) of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match held at the National Ground in Islamabad.

Chasing 153 to win, Peshawar, who had taken a 182-run first innings lead, were destroyed by the 19-year old right-arm medium bowler Ramiz for just 77 in their second innings. Ramiz took eight for 27 in 14.3 overs, finishing with figures of 13 wickets for 116 runs in the match.

Adil Amin (19) and Muhammad Rizwan (17) were the only batsmen from Peshawar who entered double figures.

Earlier, Rawalpindi, after being forced to follow-on when they perished on paltry 81 in reply to Peshawar's first innings total of 263, resumed their innings with the overnight score of 198 for three and were bowled out for 334. Zahid Mansoor (84) and Usman Saeed (79) were the main contributors.

Test cricketer Riaz Afridi, who had taken six wickets in the first innings, bowled well in the second innings as well by picking up four for 87 while Nauman Habib captured three wickets. The win helped the Group B leaders Rawalpindi to stretch their points tally to 33.

Meanwhile, at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot, Sialkot crushed Quetta by nine wickets to take their points tally to 30 in Group B.

Sialkot, after getting 141-run first innings lead, dismissed Quetta for 156 in their second innings and managed the required 16 runs to win for the loss of one wicket. Opener Shoaib Khan scored 70 for Quetta in their second innings. Bilawal Bhatti captured four while Naved Arif and Faisal Rasheed shared three wickets each for Sialkot.

Earlier, Sialkot, while chasing Quetta's first innings total of 213, resumed their innings on 279 for five and were bowled out for 354. Kamran Younis, who was at the crease on 147 at stumps on Wednesday, lost his wicket on 182.

Arun Lal grabbed seven for 87 for Quetta. Similarly, at the Country Club Ground in Muridke, Customs beat Lahore Shalimar by eight wickets. After gaining a 182-run first innings lead when they scored 296 in reply to Lahore Shalimar's 114, Customs were able to dismiss the opponents for 244 in their second innings to achieve their target of 63 for the loss two wickets. Sohail Idrees hit an unbeaten 104 for Lahore Shalimar in their second innings. Iftikhar Khan got five for 68 for Customs.

WAPDA gave PIA 279 runs to win when they declared their second innings on 333 for nine at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Adil Nasir (61), Jahangir Mirza (52), Raffatullah Mohmand (48) and Umaid Asif (39) were the prominent scorers. Najaf Shah and Ali Imran claimed three wickets each. At the close of play, PIA were 17 for no loss.

Hyderabad gained a 31-run first innings lead when they bundled out Lahore Shalimar for 348 in reply to their 379.

Opener Kashif Siddique, who was not out on 70 the other day, blasted a gallant 121.

Muhammad Irshad scored 65 with six fours and three sixes. At close, Hyderabad were struggling in their second innings on 61 for four.

Here at the National Stadium, Multan, while chasing 316 to win against Karachi Blues, were 99 for three. Ramiz Alam was batting on 58. Earlier, Karachi Blues, after gaining a 148-run first innings lead, could manage just 167 in their second innings. Opener Shahzaib Hasan hit 42 while Asad Shafique made 32.

Rizwan Haider picked up five for 74. SNGPL were in the driving seat against KRL at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi as while chasing 86 to win they were 16 for two. Earlier, after conceding a 85-run first innings lead when they bowled their opponents out for 293 in reply to their 198, were dismissed for 180. Ali Khan made 55.

At the Marghzar Cricket Ground in Islamabad, ZTBL, while chasing 240 to win against Habib Bank, were struggling on 91 for five. Earlier, Kashif Daud clinched six wickets for ZTBL to dismiss Habib Bank for 149 in their second innings.

SSGC were facing an innings defeat against National Bank as after conceding a 259 runs first innings lead as they were reeling on 143 for six in their second innings. Earlier, opener Umar Amin, who was at the crease on 139 at close on Wednesday, added eight runs to his personal total as he lost his wicket on 147 as National Bank perished for 441 in reply to SSGC's 182 first innings total.
