Emergency passage through Lowari Tunnel soon: Owais

CHITRAL: NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani here Wednesday said that the residents of Chitral would get emergency passage facility via the under-construction Lowari Tunnel before winter.

He stressed upon the National Highway Authority (NHA) to create safe passage for the people of Chitral through the under-construction tunnel in emergency cases.The residents of the city earlier used to travel through Afghanistan in emergencies. The governor also met the engineers of the Korean firm working on the tunnel.

Earlier, talking to a 40-member delegation comprising elected representatives and elders of Chitral, the governor said new era of development and prosperity was in the offing in the area with the provision of improved transport facilities through road network.

In this new journey to development, he remarked, promotion of education would get top priority. The governor’s visit to Chitral was aimed at looking into the possibility to establish a university campus there.

The governor assured the delegation to constitute a team of experts to visit the area and explore possibilities for development of road network and link Pakistan with Central Asian States through Chitral, construct Chitral Bazaar By-pass and improve healthcare facilities in the district. He said in future the students availing admission facility against the quota of Chitral in the medical colleges would have to serve in the district for five years on completion of their studies.

The governor inspected the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Campus at Sheringal in Dir Upper district and received a delegation of elders and peace committee members from Dhog Darra.The governor also visited Panahkot in Dir Upper and met with jawans of the security forces. He also lauded their courage, spirit of patriotism, sacrifices and state of preparedness.
