| KARACHI: Left-handed openers Nasir Jamshed and Umar Amin hit excellent centuries to put National Bank in control as they posted 274 for two in their first innings against Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC) on the second day (Wednesday) of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match being held at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. In reply to SSGCís first innings total of 182, National Bank resumed their innings on 19 without loss and both the openers Nasir Jamshed and Umar Amin played with great authority and put on 236 for the first wicket before Nasir Jamshed was caught by Ahmed Zeeshan off the bowling of Rizwan Ahmed for 108. He hit 13 boundaries in his fine knock which came off 226 balls. Twenty-year old Rawalpindi-born Umar Amin was still at the crease on 139 when the bails were drawn. Umar cracked 16 boundaries and a six in his gallant innings. Naumanullah was the other batsman who got out on three. Waqar Ahmed and Rizwan Fareed claimed one wicket each. Lefty Waqar from NWFP also completed 300 wickets in his first-class career when he got the wicket of Naumanullah. Meanwhile, here at the National Stadium, Multan were struggling against Karachi Blues as they were 220 for eight in reply to the opponentsí first innings total of 377. It was a perfect day for the Multanís middle order batsman Naved Yasin who slammed an unbeaten 107. He smashed 17 fours in a responsible knock. Kashif Naved (36) and Ghulam Fareed (25) were the other main contributors. Pacer Tanveer Ahmed took three while Azam Hussain and Atif Maqbool shared two wickets each. Earlier, the Karachi Blues resumed their first innings on 291 for eight and perished on 377. Atif Maqbool (45) and Azam Hussain (48 not out) shared 44 vital runs for the ninth wicket. Zulfiqar Babur took four and Rizwan Haider got three while Sajjad Hussain claimed two wickets. PIA got a 55 runs lead against WAPDA after they perished on 193 in reply to their opponentsí first innings total of 138 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Sarfraz Ahmad (46) and Yasir Hameed (37) were the prominent contributors. Pacer Sarfraz Ahmad clinched five for 40. At stumps, WAPDA were 65 for no loss. At the Marghazar Ground in Islamabad, Habib Bank claimed a 90 runs lead when they bowled ZTBL out for 167 in reply to their first innings total of 257. Shahid Yousuf (49) and Wajahatullah Wasti (30) were the main scorers. Fahad Masood picked up four while Sarmad Anwar and Abdul Rehman captured two wickets each. At close, Habib Bank was 32 for two in their second innings. Thanks to a destructive bowling spell from Test cricketer Riaz Afridi, Peshawar forced Rawalpindi to follow on at the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad. In reply to Peshawarís first innings total of 263, Rawalpindi was dismissed for 81. Riaz Afridi chipped in with six for 31 while Nouman Habib and Imran Khan grabbed two wickets. At close, Rawalpindi had fought back as they were 198 for three in their second innings. Usman Saeed scored 79 while Zahid Mansoor was still at the crease on 57. The Group A leaders SNGPL took first innings lead when they posted 285 for nine in reply to KRLís 198. Opener Naeemuddin top-scored with 93, while Azhar Shafique made 45. Jaffar Nazir picked up four for 41 for KRL. Kamran Younis hit an unbeaten 147 to place Sialkot in command as they scored 279 for five in reply to Quettaís first innings total of 213. Kamran Younis hit 29 fours in his terrific innings. Arun Lal captured three wickets for 62. Ashar Zaidi scored 129 to propel Islamabad to 485 in their first innings against Faisalabad at the Diamond Ground in Islamabad. Naeem Anjum (88) and Umair Khan (87) were the other batters with substantial support. Zulqarnain took four while Faiz Muhammad claimed three wickets. |
