The police chief made the claim while talking to a group of reporters from the electronic media before presiding a meeting of the deputy inspectors general (DIGs) at the Central Police Office (CPO) Tuesday. He claimed that all those involved in the five explosions in the city belonged to South Waziristan.
“Three gangs, responsible for providing explosives and vehicles for the terror acts have been traced and nabbed. The arrested people have disclosed the names of their accomplices during investigation,” claimed Malik Naveed.
While presiding the meeting, the IGP directed the police high-ups to take security steps with the help of community and make use of modern technology for curbing terrorism and maintaining law and order in the province.
In order to overcome the shortage of police force, the meeting decided that community police, especially the youth, would be deputed along with the cops at checkpoints to perform duty on rotation basis.
To fight the war against terrorists through improved technology, the meeting decided to introduce ‘Friends of Police’ on mobile phones as well as E-tag for effectively combating militancy in the province.
Under this system, ‘Friends of Police’ will pass information to the police about the possible acts of terrorists and saboteurs or any other suspect elements. The police will then pass this information to more ‘Friends of Police’ and thus through networking of ‘Friend of Police’ the terrorists would be brought to justice.
The provincial police chief also directed introducing E-tag system for checking of vehicles. Under this system, stickers would be affixed on the vehicles after establishing 40 to 50 points in Peshawar to get complete data of these cars. The vehicles without the tag would be subjected to a thorough checking.
