| Asad, Ali star as Karachi Blues take control |

| KARACHI: Asad Shafique and opener Ali Asad hit fine fifties to propel Karachi Blues to 291 for eight against Multan in their first innings on the opening day of their match of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy that commenced here at the National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. After being put into bat, Karachi Blues, who share 27 points on the top spot with Rawalpindi in Group B, put up a reasonably fine effort to finish the first dayís play with 291 for eight on the board. Asad Shafique remained the top scorer with 67 in which he smashed nine fours while Ali Asad played a patient knock of 51 with five boundaries. Shahzaib Hasan with 48 was the other main scorer. Rizwan Haider claimed three for 48 for Multan. Meanwhile, at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, WAPDA were dismissed for 138 against Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) after being invited into bat. Riffatullah Mohmand (38) and Sarfraz Ahmad (19) were the main batsmen. Aizaz Bin Ilyas captured four for 37 while Najaf Shah and Kamran Sajid picked up three wickets each. At stumps, PIA were 51 for the loss of Khurram Manzoor, who made ten. Yasir Hameed was bating on 11 and Agha Sabir on 23 when the first dayís play was finished due to bad light. At the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi, KRL were bowled out for 198 against the Group A leaders Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL). Nouman Ali with 53 was the main contributor. Asad Ali clinched five for 32 while Muhammad Hafeez captured three for 18. In reply, SNGPL closed the day on 51 without loss. Muhammad Hussain took five for seven for Customs to dismiss Lahore Shalimar for a paltry 114 in just 47.2 overs. Ali Reza (25) and Suleman Khan (27) were the distinguished batters. Customs, in reply, had posted 55 for one when the bails were drawn on the opening day. Quetta perished for 213 against Sialkot in their first innings at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot. Shoaib Khan blasted 94 with the help of 12 fours while Jalat Khan scored a patient 45 off 83 balls. Faisal Rasheed took four for 35. In reply, Sialkot were 11 without loss. Habib Bank scored 232 for six in their first innings against Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL). Salim Elahi (49), Kamran Hussain (39) and Hasan Raza (34) were the main scorers. Kashif Daud clinched three for 85 for ZTBL. Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) were routed on 182 by National Bank at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. Asif Zakir (52) and Shehzad Butt (46) were the main batters. Uzairul Haq clinched five for 40 for National Bank. In reply, National Bank were 19 without losing any wickets. Hyderabad posted 274 for six against Lahore Ravi at close in their first innings at the LCCA Ground in Lahore. Hanifur Rehman (49), Shahid Qambrani (49) and Aqeel Anjum (39) remained the prominent scorers. Waqas Ahmad took three for 79. Umair Khan hit a gallant 87 to guide Islamabad to 281 for five in their first innings against Faisalabad at the Diamond Club Ground in the federal capital. Umair hit 14 fours in his fine 87 while Raheel Majeed made 46. Ijaz Ahmad took three for 34. Azam Jan slammed 77 with 7 fours to help Peshawar post 263 in their first innings against Rawalpindi at the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad. Mohammad Ramiz picked up five for 89 while Mohammad Ayaz claimed three for 57 for Rawalpindi. |
