MALL ROAD BLAST 35 dead bodies, 67 injured shifted to Rawalpindi hospitals

The District Headquarters Hospital, Military Hospital and the Combined Military Hospital received a total of 35 dead bodies and as many as 67 injured till Monday afternoon after a suicide blast near Mall Road.

The blast took place at around 10:40 a.m. on Monday when suicide bombers, said to be two persons on a motorcycle, blew themselves up in front of the National Bank of Pakistan located in Shalimar Plaza on a link road along The Mall.

“The DHQ Hospital received a total of 11 dead bodies, including two legs believed to be of one person and eight injured, all males, from the scene of the incident,” said DHQ Hospital Acting Medical Superintendent Dr. Ejaz Sohail while talking to ‘The News’.

He said that of the eight injured, two were shifted to the hospital with major injuries while six with minor injuries who are stable and out of danger. The injured who were taken to the DHQ Hospital included Inam, Mushtaq, Hikmatullah, M Ejaz, Nooristan, Rafiq, Sibtain and Bashir Ahmed, he said. Later, in the afternoon, he told ‘The News’ that three of the eight injured were shifted to the CMH while five were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

‘Rescue-1122’ Spokesperson Deeba Shahnaz, when contacted by ‘The News’, said that according to the data collected by her office so far, the three hospitals, DHQ Hospital, Military Hospital and Combined Military Hospital, had received a total of 35 dead bodies and 67 injured. “The DHQ Hospital received 11 dead bodies, MH received six and CMH 18,” she said.

Giving details of the injured, she said that eight injured were taken to the DHQ Hospital from the scene of the blast, MH received 29 injured while 30 injured were taken to the CMH.

The dead received by MH included Maqsood Ahmed, Shahid Abbas, Hamid Ali, Paris Khan, Muhammad Ahmed and Amjad Rizwan, while injured reached there included M Akram, Mazhar, Noor Zaman, M Shafiq, M Shahadat, Manzoor, Abdur Rahman, Khalid, Ramzan, Hadayatullah, Nazir Ahmed, Muhammad Imran, Mansab, Amjad, Zahid Iqbal, M Aslam, M Afzal, Lal Khan, Shakir Ali, M Sharif, Fakharullah Bhatti, M Tufail, Basharat, Abdulsaeed, Sagheer Ahmed, M Haroon and Ghafoor along with one unidentified child and an adult at the moment.

Deeba said that the dead brought to the CMH included Muhammad Sarwar, Khalid, Shahzad, Mehboob, Niamat Masih, Hafeez, Jehangir, Munir Ahmed, Zia-ul-Haq, Kamran, M Yaqoob and two females namely Fakhrunnisa and Samina Yaqoob and five unidentified.

The injured taken to the CMH included Sajid Mehmood, Babar Khan, Saeed Zaman, Mohammad Sher, Ghazanfar, M Akram, Alam Khan, Khadim Husain, Mukhtar Husain, Mihad Ali, Shabbir Husain, Rashid Masood, Mohammad Saleem, Sikandar, Aitbar Shah, Mohammad Aslam, Nematullah, Islamuddin, Abdul Wahid, Faiz Qadir, Khawar Shehzad, Mohammad Siddiq, Mohammad Iqbal, Shakeel and six others. The list of dead received by the DHQ Hospital, however, was not finalised till filing of this report.
