| Wapda employees protest ‘appointments on political grounds’ |

| PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union staged a sit-in and locked its office against appointments in the department made allegedly on political basis. A large number of Pesco and Tesco employees led by the provincial deputy chairman Mustajab Mazdoor Yar took out a protest procession on Monday which later turned into a rally. Speaking on the occasion, provincial deputy secretary Ali Syed, press secretary Gohar Taj and others made it clear that the employees of the Pesco and Tesco would never allow the bigwigs to make political appointments in the department. They said the higher authorities were deliberately ignoring the talented and academically sound people. The workers asked the government and higher authorities of Pesco and Tesco to follow fair policy while making appointments. They urged the authorities to appoint the children of the Pesco and Tesco employees against their 20 percent quota. The office-bearers threatened to launch ‘Idara Bachao Mulk Sanwaro’ drive across the province if the government failed to stop the political interference in the appointments. They appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and Peshawar High Court to take notice of the political appointments in the Wapda and direct the authorities to ensure merit in appointments. ABBOTTABAD: Pesco employees staged a demonstration which was addressed by the provincial vice-chairman of the workers union, Jamil Akhtar Tanoli, zonal chairman Saeed Lodhi and divisional chairman Aftab Khan. They condemned the political appointments in the Wapda, Pesco and Tesco.They alleged that each post in Wapda was being sold at Rs50,000 to 100,000 and added that federal minister for Water and Power had prepared lists of the PPP workers awarding them jobs in Wapda. KOHAT: The protest was staged on the directives of the provincial leadership of the Wapda employees union. The district president of the Wapda Union Younas Shah said the government should stop political interference in the recruitment as the children of the Wapda employees deserved posting in the department. DARGAI: The Wapda Dargai Union in Malakand Agency took out a protest rally against the appointments in the Wapda. Divisional chairman Gul Zameen Khan, sub-divisional chairman Behramand Khan, Shah Hussain, Javed Khan, Kameen Mama, Amir Razzaq Sahil and Javed Anwar Khan condemned the authorities for making appointments on political basis. LAKKI MARWAT: Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union district chapter observed ‘Talabandi’ of Pesco offices to record their protest against the political interference in recruitments and delay in fulfillment of other demands. The workers held a protest meeting on the premises of Pesco office with the divisional president Jamal Shah Abakhel presiding and demanded technical and hard areas allowance. Sher Alam Khan, Ihsanullah, Gul Badshah, Ali Sher Khan, Younas Khan, Shafiullah, Nawab Khan and Muhammad Karim spoke on the occasion. |
