Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has directed officers of the provincial Board of Revenue (BoR) to accelerate the computerisation of revenue records in order to protect and preserve the old record.

He issued this directive on Monday while presiding over a meeting of the revenue department. “We have been hearing about the computerisation of revenue records for the past 10 years but no achievement has been made in this regard,” he said.

Field books and old survey record must be preserved and Deh maps should be updated, Shah said. The pilot programme of the revenue department must be updated and the latest ground realities must be reflected. It was a very important task as far as the province of Sindh is concerned, and it was the prime duty of revenue officers and officials to evolve a strategy to fulfil the task that comprises three integrated projects: administration and revenue management information systems; creation of GIS mapping; and preservation of more than century old record in Hyderabad.

Earlier, Sindh Board of Revenue (BoR) senior member Ghulam Ali Pasha and other officers gave a detailed presentation on the progress of computerising the record. The meeting was informed that under these projects, all functions of the BoR Sindh would be performed electronically. Service centres and kiosks would be established in each Taluka, and district headquarters will provide one-window operation, as the data will be updated in real time. Updated satellite maps will provide accurate details of any part of land, and a data base will be made available to all stakeholders to bring transparency as well as efficiency, thus eliminating the chances of forgery.

The meeting was told that a Programme Monitoring Unit has been established at the Revenue Rest House in Karachi and the preservation of old records has begun. Initially, the record of Hyderabad and Matiari will be preserved, while more than 20,000 records have already been preserved. Management consultants for the projects have been appointed, while the process of awarding the assignment of software consultancy was under way.
