Kidnapped son of ex-MNA gunned down

KHAR: The bullet-riddled body of one of the three tribesmen kidnapped by unknown persons was found near here on Sunday. Sources said that unidentified persons had picked up Salahuddin Khan, the younger son of ex-MNA from Bajaur Agency late Nawab Abdul Subhan Khan, along with his nephew and a local tribesman Jehangir Khan on Saturday night.



Five killed in Shikarpur tribal feud

KHAIRPUR: Five people, including an elder of the Shar tribe, were killed and three others sustained injuries in a clash that broke out between two groups of the tribe in village Rakhial Shar Ji Wand in Garhi Yasin, Shikarpur, on Sunday. Police sources said the two groups fired rockets and used sophisticated weapons against each other. As a result, Lakhmir Shar, Ghulam Mustafa Shar, Aijaz Shar, Rustam Shar and one unidentified person died on the spot, while three others sustained injuries, the sources said.



Zakat council restores Guzara allowance

ISLAMABAD: The 100th meeting of the Central Zakat Council (CZC) was held here at the Ministry of Zakat and Ushr on Saturday under the chairmanship of Khalid Idrees, Secretary Zakat and Ushr/Administrator General Zakat. The meeting approved restoration of the Guzara Allowance from November 1, 2009, which was discontinued in July this year. The council also approved the Eid Grant for Mustahiqeen, which will be distributed before Eid-ul-Azha. It was also decided to enhance the rate of subsistence allowance being provided to leprosy patients.



Four killed in Sukkur road accident

KHAIRPUR: Four people, including a woman and a child, were killed and 12 others sustained injuries in a road accident in Sukkur on Sunday, police sources said. They said a Suzuki pick-up and a truck collided in the Sabzi Mandi. As a result, four people died on the spot, while 12 others sustained injuries. The dead and injured were shifted to hospitals in Sukkur and Rohri. The dead were identified as Mashooq Chohan, Ms Rani, eight-year-old Darshan, and Tulsi Mainghwar. Police have impounded both the vehicles, but the truck driver fled the scene.



1,600 high-rise apartments in Islamabad soon

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Housing and Works will soon launch construction work on 1,600 high apartments in Sector G-13 Markaz soon. The high-rise construction would have a covered area of 700-1500 square feet and comprise 14 storeys besides the ground floor and two basements. According to data collected by the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation, against the available 24,000 housing units, there are 135,060 federal government employees in Islamabad.



Durrani sees foreign hand

in terrorist activities

ISLAMABAD: Defence analyst Lieutenant General (retd) Asad Durrani on Saturday claimed the involvement of foreign elements behind the incidents of extremism. Speaking in a get-together at the Rotary Club, he said that some foreign elements, which could not digest a nuclear Pakistan, were trying to weaken the country on different fronts. He said that removal of terrorist threats would not only restore the confidence of foreign investors, but also provide a safe environment to restore their activities. He linked the restoration of law and order with improving the national economy.



SNF to stage protests against NRO
