| PESHAWAR: Like other parts of the province, the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Tuesday staged a demonstration to condemn police high-handedness against party workers at a peaceful rally in Bannu. Led by Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, Kashif Azam Chishti, Israrullah and others, the JI activists gathered outside Peshawar Press Club to express anger against the government. Holding banners and party flags, the Jamaat activists chanted slogans against the government for not allowing the JI leaders and workers to hold a peaceful rally in Bannu. Our correspondent adds from Timergara: Activists of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Dir Lower chapter, staged a demonstration against the alleged police baton-charge against JI workers in Bannu and ban on the entry of party’s central chief Syed Munawar Hassan there. The JI workers took out a protest procession from Ahya-ul-Uloom and staged a sit-in outside Timergara press club. Led by former Member National Assembly Maulana Asadullah, JI protesters chanted slogans against the government and police for thrashing party workers in Bannu. Speakers, on the occasion, condemned Awami National Party and Pakistan People’s Party for their flawed policies and violence against JI workers. They said that Kerry-Lugar Law was a document of slavery and the rulers had accepted it at the cost of country’s sovereignty. Our correspondent adds from Bannu: The JI activists staged a sit-in outside press club to record their protest against the baton-charge of party workers. The JI workers, while holding placards and banners, chanted slogan against federal and provincial government. On the occasion, speakers including Saeed Akhtar, Abdul Malik and Humayun condemned the policies of federal government for following US agenda in the country. Protest rallies were also held in other districts including Mardan, Chitral and Dir Upper. Our Abbottabad correspondent adds: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) head Syed Munawar Hassan Tuesday alleged that rulers had turned Islamabad into a ‘mini-Pentagon’ where US Marines and agents of Blackwater were involved in mysterious activities. Addressing a public rally at Jinnah Chowk, he said the agents of Blackwater had killed thousands of innocent people in Afghanistan and Iraq and were now playing the same game in Pakistan. He said the military operation was not a solution to any issue and the people of Balochistan were opposed to the federation due to repeated military operations. He alleged that the US was creating gulf between the people and armed forces of Pakistan. JI provincial ameer Sirajul Haq and district ameer Abdur Razzaq also spoke on the occasion. The police had beefed up security across the district and most of the entry and exit points were manned by members of the law-enforcement agencies. |
