| Karachi Talking about the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that “vested interests” were obsessed with the issue. He wondered what had changed in just one year for these “vested interests” to “start attacking President Asif Ali Zardari relentlessly.” These people in fact do not want democracy to flourish in the country, Shah maintained. “The NRO was not specific to one person, nor did it damage any leadership. “Why were they silent when Asif Zardari was nominated for presidency? For the first time in the history of Sindh, the President has received 100 per cent of the votes from the provincial assembly because of the ‘reconciliation policy’,” the CM said. He added that the sole purpose of the reconciliation policy initiated by slain Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir Bhutto was to end “vindictiveness” in politics. |
