2 militants die in Matta, Mohmand

MINGORA: The security forces Saturday claimed to have killed a militant and arrested 25 others during search operation in various areas while the bullet-riddled body of a wanted militant commander was found dumped on the roadside in Matta tehsil.

Official sources said that the security forces conducted search operation in Sakhra area in Matta and killed a militant commander identified as Saidul Bashar in an exchange of fire.

Twenty-five suspected militants were also arrested during the operation. The arrested persons were shifted to a secret place for an interrogation.

Meanwhile, the bullet-riddled body of a militant commander identified as Rahimzada alias Commando was found dumped on the roadside in Bar Thana village in Matta.

The official sources described him as a dreaded commander who had also participated in militant activities in Kalam and Buner district. He was allegedly involved in killing of innocent people in his village Bar Thana. It was also believed that the commander was among the militants who exhumed the body of Pir Samiullah and hanged the same on a tree in Gawalray village.

Our Ghallanai correspondent adds: A militant was killed in a clash with security forces in Badmanai area while forces continued operation in the borderlands of troubled Baizai subdivision in Mohmand Agency on Saturday.

Official sources said that a fierce clash took place between militants and security forces when the former attacked the newly established outpost in Badmanai area with automatic weapons early Saturday.

The ensuing gunfire continued for quite some time that left a local militant dead while the others fled the scene.

The identity of the slain militant could not be established.

The security forces also demolished the house of a suspected militant in Chinari area during the search operation. The forces also hit the insurgents’ positions in different areas of Baizai tehsil with mortar and artillery guns. There was, however, no report on loss of life or damage to property.
