| Five miscreants killed in Bajaur Agency By our correspondent KHAR: Five militants were killed and three others injured when jet fighters bombed their hideouts in Salarzai Tehsil of Bajaur Agency on Friday. Sources said that jet fighters targeted the hideouts of militants in the Mulla Said hills, destroying several of them in action. In another incident, security forces defused a roadside bomb in the Mulla Said area planted by unknown militants. Meanwhile, an important militant commander surrendered to security forces. So far, 104 wanted militants have surrendered to security forces in Bajaur. The political administration has beefed up security in the agency and suspicious persons and vehicles are being strictly checked. Four militants die in Khyber Agency By our correspondent PESHAWAR: Security forces claimed they had killed four militants in an operation in the Bara subdivision of Khyber Agency on Friday. A statement from the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters on Friday said the four militants were killed in the night between Thursday and Friday in Gurgorai area in Bara. Four pick-ups of the militants were also destroyed in the overnight action. Separately, 25 suspected militants were arrested during a search operation in Shalobar are of Bara on Friday, said the statement. Three insurgents killed in Swat By our correspondent MINGORA: Security forces on Friday claimed to have killed three militants during an operation in Swat’s Barikot Tehsil on Friday. A press release of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the troops conducted the operation in Nijigram. It said three militants were killed in the action. The press release also claimed that security forces arrested 15 suspected militants from Chak Daulat, Miandam and Mangwaltan. Seven militants, it added, surrendered to security forces in areas around Mingora. One dies as five shells hit Kohat By our correspondent KOHAT: One person was killed when unidentified persons fired five mortar shells in the city early Friday. Sources said unidentified persons fired mortars from Oblan Hills, which landed in different areas of the city. They said one of the shells landed on the rooftop of a shop in Tirah bazaar, injuring a sleeping labourer Sheena Gul hailing from Bajaur. He succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. Meanwhile, police recovered the bullet-riddled body of a young man from Jangalkhel area in Kohat. His identity couldn’t be ascertained. 24 suspects held in Larkana By our correspondent LARKANA: Police on Friday arrested 24 drug dealers, robbers, and proclaimed offenders in a crackdown on criminals and recovered arms, ammunition and drugs from their possession. District Police Officer Irfan Baloch said in a press release that police conducted raids in different areas and recovered a large quantity of hashish, wine, arms and ammunition. Some of the accused were identified as proclaimed offenders Zahid Korai, Sajjad Jatoi, Bhale Khan Jatoi, and Saeed alias Hamid, Nadeem, Habibullah Panhwer, Bakht, Mohammed Punhal, Maula Bux, Deedar Umrani, Gul Hassan Mugheri and others. Dacoits attack police station in Shikarpur By our correspondent KHAIRPUR: Dacoits attacked a police station in Shikarpur, freeing their two associates and fleeing with official weapons of policemen after holding them hostage. Police sources said dacoits raided the Mehmoodabad Police Station of Shikarpur and got freed Rashid and Anwar Soomro, who were arrested during an encounter. The sources said the dacoits tortured and injured SHO Ashiq Ali and his other staff. The sources said later the police sealed all exit routes but failed to arrest the dacoits. Police have registered a case against Abdul Khaliq, Sudhir, Raja and other dacoits. |
