| S Punjab candidates take lead in |

| LAHORE CANDIDATES from remote and underdeveloped districts of southern Punjab have outshined those from major cities of the province in medical and dental colleges’ admissions this year. According to a press release issued by the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore, here on Thursday, an analysis done by bio-statistical department of the UHS shows that the highest percentage of candidates likely to be admitted to public sector medical and dental institutions of the province belongs to 12 districts of southern Punjab. Out of total 5,365 candidates of southern Punjab who applied for admissions, 908 (16.92%) are likely to get admitted in MBBS and BDS. Among these, 167 are from Multan, 161 from Muzaffargarh, 93 from DG Khan, 87 from Layyah, 73 from Bahawalpur, 62 from Vehari, 62 from Rahim Yar Khan, 58 from Khanewal, 49 from Bahawalnagar, 39 from Rajanpur, 32 from Lodhran and 25 from Bhakkar district. The UHS has issued the provisional merit list of candidates who are eligible to get admission to public sector medical and dental colleges of Punjab. According to the list, top three candidates are from southern Punjab. Bushra Iqbal from Multan district is on the top of the list with aggregate percentage of 94.4182 whereas Ayesha Karim of Vehari and Hafiz Muhammad Kaleem Ullah of Multan are on the second and third positions with aggregate percentage of 92.9000 and 92.7909 respectively. From Central Punjab, a total of 11,878 candidates applied for admission out of them 1,673 (14.08%) are likely to get admitted to medical and dental colleges. Among these, 566 are from Lahore, 218 from Faisalabad, 145 from Gujranwala, 86 from Sargodha , 85 from Sialkot , 67 from Sahiwal, 66 from Toba Tek Singh, 56 from Okara, 51 from Sheikhupura, 51 from Jhang, 48 from Gujrat, 34 from Narowal, 29 from Khushab, 29 from Kasur and 29 from Mandi Bahauddin. From Northern Punjab, 1687 eligible candidates applied for admission, out of which 180 (10.66%) are going to be admitted. Among these, 110 are from Rawalpindi, 53 Islamabad and 17 belong to Attock district. According to the provisional merit list displayed by UHS, top 2700 candidates will apply for admission against 2263 MBBS and 216 BDS seats, on prescribed admission forms from November 02 to 07. First selection list of candidates admitted in first year MBBS and BDS will be displayed on November 16, in which colleges will be allocated to selected candidates according to merit and their choice. Classes will start on December 02. |
