| Shops, school blown up in Mansehra By our correspondent MANSEHRA: Unknown persons blew up five shops and partially damaged a government primary school in Khaki Police Station limits in the wee hours of Tuesday. Sources said the incident happened in the Bhir Kund area, some 12 kilometres away from here. In the blast, a video shop and four other shops were completely destroyed while a school was partially damaged. Locals said that the CD business had been shut down following the threats by the unknown miscreants some five months ago. Some shops had, however, reopened on the occasion of Eidul Fitr. Forces destroy several militant hideouts in Bajaur By our correspondent KHAR: Several hideouts of militants were destroyed during clashes between security forces and insurgents in Mulla Said area of Salarzai subdivision in Bajaur Agency on Tuesday. Also, security forces arrested five militants, including an arms supplier, during search in different areas of Nawagai and Khar subdivisions. Sources said that clashes continued during which several hideouts were destroyed in Mulla Said area. Jirga says no place for fleeing militants By our correspondent LAKKI MARWAT: The Marwat Qaumi Jirga on Tuesday vowed not to allow the fleeing militants to enter the district. “We will not allow foreign and local militants to enter the district after the military operation in Waziristan,” the elders announced at the Jirga. District Coordination Officer Muhammad Anwar Khan, district police officer Muhammad Ayub and other officials were also present on the occasion. Elders including Rais Essakkhel, Muhammad Aslam Khan, Haji Amir Nawaz Khan, Abdul Ghafoor, Shamsullah, Nisar Khan Mandokhel Nazir Farooqi, Maulana Samiullah attended the gathering. ‘Long march’ enters Naushahro Feroze By our correspondent NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: The ‘long march’ of the Awami Tahreek arrived in Naushahro Feroze on Tuesday after travelling from Kandhkot to the town on its way to Karachi for saving assets of Sindh. Hundreds of citizens and members of the civil society welcomed the march. Talking to them, leaders of the Awami Tehreek Qadir Rathore, Hakeem Halepoto, Umra Samoon and others said the people of Sindh were facing poverty and substandard education, but the government was not ready to solve any of the problems. They said despite the will of Benazir Bhutto, a murder FIR had not been lodged against ex-president Gen Pervez Musharraf by the PPP government. |
