7 militants killed in Bajaur operation

KHAR: Seven militants were killed and several others sustained injuries during clashes with security forces and in a bomb blast in different areas of Bajaur Agency on Monday. Also, the security forces conducted search and recovered huge quantity of weapons from various parts of the Khar tehsil.

Official sources said that fierce clashes erupted between the security forces and militants in different areas in Salarzai tehsil when the former continued advance movement towards remote areas of the troubled tehsil.

They added that the security forces also pounded militants’ positions in Mulla Said and Banda areas of Salarzai subdivision and Tangai, Damadola and adjoining areas of Mamond tehsil with gunship choppers and artillery guns.

At least six insurgents were killed and three others wounded while a number of hideouts were destroyed in the ground and air operation, the sources said.Reports said that a dreaded militant, whose name could not be ascertained, was killed and his family members sustained injuries in the explosion while he was making a bomb in his house in Mandal area of Khar tehsil.

Also, the security forces recovered a huge quantity of lethal arms, including Kalashnikov rifles, anti-aircraft guns and scores of cartridges during search in Khar tehsil.The security forces, the sources said, restarted distribution of food among the affected people in Salarzai subdivision.

Meanwhile, the residents continued migration to safer places but they were facing great difficulties due to persistent curfew and blockade of roads in the area.Several new checkposts had been established on almost all the roads and security alerted. Intensive checking of vehicles and frisking of individuals was being carried out by security forces.

All the business centres, government departments and educational institutions had been closed due to volatile situation. There was acute shortage of food, medicines and other necessary items as both the tehsils were under constant curfew and there was no supply of edibles.
