| Six held in Dera raids By our correspondent DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The district police arrested six persons, including two activists of a proscribed outfit, in separate raids and recovered arms from their possession. Sources said in the first incident, police raided the hideout of a proclaimed offender, Allah Bakhash alias Bakhsha. He, however, evaded the arrest along with his accomplices and escaped towards the nearby Zam Mountains after an exchange of fire with the police. Six soldiers hurt in Khyber By our correspondent BARA: Six soldiers were injured when the militants fired 17 mortar shells at the Mirwat Fort in Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency on Monday. Tribal sources said the militants fired 17 mortar shells at the fort in Malik Dinkhel area of Bara Tehsil at 3 p.m., injuring six personnel of the security forces. In retaliation, the security forces targeted the hideouts of militants in hilly area of Malik Dinkhel but there was no word on the casualties. ‘Waziristan action a conspiracy to weaken Army’ By our correspondent SWABI: Former Ameer of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Qazi Hussain Ahmad said on Monday that the Waziristan operation was a conspiracy hatched by the US and its allies to weaken the Pakistan Army. “The strong tribesmen are the strength of the Pakistan Army and the enemies are out to create more problems for Pakistan,” Qazi told a press conference in Zaida. The Waziristan operation would not yield the desired results, he said, adding that thousands of people had been displaced due to the operation so far. He said the US, Israel and India had hatched a conspiracy against Pakistan and succeeded in creating an insurgency-like situation in the country. Three shot dead in Batkhela By our correspondent BATKHELA: Three persons, including a passer-by, were shot dead and four others sustained injuries over a petty dispute in Saminabad area here on Monday. Registering a case with the Malakand Levies, Bakht Toti, a cousin of the deceased, reported that he, along with his relatives, was on the way to fields when their rivals opened fire at them, killing Muhammad Said, his son Umar Said and Abdur Razzaq, a passer-by, on the spot. Akhtar Ali, Umar Khaliq, Gohar Ali and Wakeel sustained bullet injuries. The injured were taken to the Agency Headquarters Hospital, Batkhela. The motive behind the incident was stated to be a scuffle between children a day earlier. |
