• Tension in Lyari after several killed by gangsters—The situation in Lyari remained tense on Sunday after unidentified gunmen took control of several areas and allegedly killed youngsters in the Baghdadi, Chakiwara and Kalri police limits.

• Rally warns against amendments to Blasphemy Law—The government was warned by speakers a protest rally held on Sunday that any change in the Namoos-e-Risalat Act (Blasphemy Law) would be dealt with appropriately and the entire nation would march towards Islamabad and demand the immediate sacking of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer.

• Heritage status sought for Benazir’s birthplace—A resolution seeking heritage status for Dr Pinto’s Clinic, claimed by former senator Taj Haider to be the birthplace of slain Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir Bhutto, was passed unanimously at the Sindh Assembly session on Monday.

• ‘Nazims to continue till new city council comes into being’—Although the local government (LG) system all over the country has ended on October 16 (Friday) after completing its four year tenure, the Nazims will continue till the new city councils come into being, said the presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar on Friday.
