| Karachi The Sindh High Court (SHC) converted on Thursday the complaint of the family members of a transporter, who was killed along with the alleged gangster, Rehman Baloch, in the Steel Town police limits in August, into a petition in which they have sought a judicial inquiry into the extrajudicial killing. The late Baba Aurangzaib’s sisters, Farah, Fozia, Nadia, Sofia and Samreen, along with other family members, alleged that the police officer, Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam, killed Aurangzaib along with Rehman Baloch in a fake police encounter. They said that their brother was not involved in any criminal case and if the police wanted to arrest Baloch, they should have first arrested him and then tried him in a court of law instead of the extrajudicial killing. They also accused the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) legislator Nabeel Gabol of masterminding the entire episode and said that all police actions took directions from him. They also alleged that Aslam took Rs6 million from Baloch for his escape from police custody. Raid ordered for recovery of detainees: The SHC directed the Sessions Judge Hyderabad to appoint a judicial officer for the recovery of six people allegedly detained by the Tando Allah Yar police. Rashid Hussain submitted that his father, Mohammad Ibrahim, three brothers, Niaz Hussain, Irshad and Sikandar, and two sisters were taken from Hyderabad by the Tando Allayar DSP, and that, he feared for their lives. The petitioner’s counsel submitted that his client’s three other brothers, Wazir, Fida and Nadir, were required by the police in connection with a murder case but after failing to arrest the absconding suspects, the police took their family members. The SHC’s division bench directed the sessions judge Hyderabad to appoint a judicial officer for the recovery of the detainees and submit a report on Friday. Detention case: The police denied the detention or arrest of a man from Sohrab Goth. The petitioner, Yousuf Khan, challenged the alleged detention of his brother, submitting that his brother, Sher Zaman, was arrested by SHO Sohrab Goth during a raid at his house on September 13. The petitioner submitted that the police had not produced him in any court of law, nor was his involvement shown in any case. Filing comments on the petition, the police denied the arrest. The court adjourned the hearing. |
