WAQIPH water project launched for quake affectees

Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Raja Zulqurnain Saturday launched the WAQIPH project to address the water needs of October 2005 earthquake affectees.

The WAQIPH project was launched with the financial and technical assistance provided by Erra and Unicef in collaboration with LG&RD to enhance sustainability of water supply system, adopt best practices for the attainment of water quality and hygiene promotion in targeted union councils of earthquake-hit areas. The aim of the project is to bring about behavioural changes in attitude and approach of the community.

During the project, 22 union councils and 734 water supply schemes would be targeted.

Charlie and his team produced a wonderful interactive theatre. It emphasized mainly on adopting healthy lifestyle. The theatre was highly appreciated by the participants and the idea was lauded.

High community participation was witnessed on the occasion, as large number of people from all walks of life turned up. They appreciated the efforts of Children First and Women Welfare Organisation, Poonch.

Earlier, in his address, the AJK president appreciated the efforts of Children First and Women Welfare Organisation, Poonch.

important and both the organisations have done a remarkable job.

Chief Executive Officer of Children First, Mubashar Nabi in his address said that the end user is not educated on water quality and hygiene.

He said our goals will remain unaccomplished if we fail to involve major stakeholders including civil society, government and other line departments.

Zaheer Gardezi, GD WATSAN, ERRA gave the presentation and discussed the targets and objectives of WAQIPH. He brought the water harvesting issue to limelight and said that the said project would start soon.

He further added that civil society and government both should put in their best in order to make it successful.
