Corps commander briefed on Swat

MINGORA: Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Masood Aslam Saturday said the militants were eliminated and peace restored to Swat valley after successful military operation.

Addressing a gathering in Khwazakhela, he said the soldiers of Pakistan Army rendered sacrifices to make the valley a peaceful place and purge it of the terrorists.

He urged the people of Swat to extend support to the military against the terrorists and also help it in putting the valley on track to development.

Earlier, he was briefed about the operation and current security situation of the valley at the Circuit House Mingora.

The veteran Awami National Party leader and former federal minister, Afzal Khan, commonly known as Khan Lala, also spoke on the occasion.

He said the sacrifices rendered by the soldiers and police officials brought back peace to the valley. He assured full support of the people to the army in making Swat prosperous.

The people of Matta tehsil complained that despite improvement in security situation, courts had not been reopened yet which had been creating problems for the people.

Meanwhile, security forces conducted search operation in village Shanku near Madyan and apprehended two brothers of terrorist Shanku Mulla. Three suspected terrorists voluntarily surrendered to the security forces at Deranpatai. Five were arrested from an area near Khwazakhela.

The security forces during their search operation in Kukrai near Mingora apprehended one militant while two suspected militants in Amankot and as many in Manja and Sarsenai surrendered to the security forces.
