| UPS joins London 2012 sponsorship LONDON: UPS has become the latest sponsor of the London 2012 Olympics, and the delivery company will manage the local organising committee's transportation and logistics. The organising committee announced on Wednesday that UPS had become its fifth tier two supporter and 22nd commercial sponsor overall. "Staging an Olympic Games and Paralympic Games is probably the biggest peacetime logistical undertaking in the world. UPS will bring a wealth of expertise to the planning and delivery of a spectacular Games in 2012," Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London Organising Committee said. More sponsor woes hit US PGA HILTON HEAD ISLAND, South Carolina: The traditional US PGA Tour event after the Masters, the Heritage Classic, will lose its title sponsor after next April's edition, PGA officials said on Tuesday. Verizon announced that it will not continue past 2010 with its backing of the event, which started in 1987, while tournament and PGA officials said they will immediately launch a search for a new corporate sponsor. NZ replace Tuffey with O'Brien JOHANNESBURG: Iain O'Brien has replaced injured Daryl Tuffey in the New Zealand Champions Trophy squad, the International Cricket Council said on Wednesday. The Blacks Caps, who defied the odds to reach the semifinals of the two-week tournament in South Africa, have been ravaged by injuries, losing Tuffey, fellow bowler Jacob Oram and opening batsman Jesse Ryder. Nameer off to Sri Lanka for junior tennis KARACHI: Karachi based Nameer Shamsi left for Sri Colombo, Sri Lanka on Wednesday night to participate in the two legs of Sri Lanka International Juniors World Ranking Tennis Championships.Both the championships will be held in Colombo. The first leg would be held from October 5 to 12 and the second leg would be played from October 12 to 18. Nameer Shamsi represented Pakistan in Boys U14 ITF Boys Team championship held in Malaysia last year. This trip is a part of his preparation to represent the country in the Junior Davis Cup competition which will be held in January 2010. |
