Sindh govt may extend anti-hepatitis programme

HYDERABAD: Provincial Programme Manager of three-year project against Hepatitis B & C under the Sindh Chief Minister initiative, Dr Abdul Majeed Chutto, has said the government is actively considering to extend the project from three to five years to provide medical treatment to patients up to maximum level and convert Sindh into a hepatitis-free province.

Talking to the official media, Dr Abdul Majeed Chutto said this extension would increase medical cover to the patients to almost 100 per cent. He said at present the medical check-up of 17,500 prisoners had been completed out of which the result of 920 prisoners had been received as positive.

He said out of these patients, the treatment of 255 prisoners had been successfully completed. He said out of these treated prisoners, 143 belong to District Jail Malir, 17 Central Jail Malir, 27 Central Jail Jacobabad, 24 District Jail Mirpurkhas, while one prisoner belongs to Tando Allahyar Jail. He appealed to the people to avail this project by getting themselves investigated and treated for Hepatitis B & C fatal diseases.
