Strike observed in interior Sindh

HYDERABAD: Strike was observed on Saturday in parts of Hyderabad in response to a call of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM).

The main city centres, such as Resham Gali, Shahi Bazaar, Paretabad, and Latifabad, remained open throughout the day while Tower Market, Qasimabad and Saddar areas remained closed.

Khairpur: Complete shutter-down was observed in the towns and cities of upper Sindh. Over 30 workers of nationalist parties, including district Sukkur president of JSQM, were arrested.

Naushahro Feroze: Complete shutter-down strike was observed in Naushahro Feroze, Moro, Tharu Shah, Kandiaro, Bhiria road, Padidan and other areas of the district.

The JSQM activists forced the shopkeepers of Shahi Bazaar of Mehrabpur to close their businesses. A clash ensued as a result of which five activists of JSQM and 10 shopkeepers of Kamboh tribe were injured.

Nawabshah: Partial strike was observed in the district. The city’s main trading centres remained closed, while most of the markets remained open.

Thatta: Complete strike was observed in the district. All business and trade activities were closed in Thatta, Makli, Mirpursakro, Gharo, Gujo, Sujawal, Mirpurbathoro and Jati.

The slain Thatta district president of JSQM, Mushtaque Khaskheli, was buried near the shrine of renowned saint Makhdoom Mohammad Hashim Thattavi in the Makli graveyard on Saturday. The funeral procession was brought from Karachi to Gharo in a caravan of vehicles where Namaz-e-Janaza was offered. His funeral was led by Bashir Khan Qureshi. Later talking to newsmen, Bashir Qureshi said the establishment was scared of the unity among the nationalist parties in Sindh.
