ISLAMABAD: As many as 308 non-gazetted government employees are being laid off from the Statistics Division by July 30, 2009, The News has learnt.

“All these employees are to be sent home with the commencement of the new financial year instead of accommodating them in other government departments and within attached organisations,” sources said on Thursday.

Almost all the grade-5 to grade-11 employees, 25 (BPS-5), 14 (BPS-10) and 170 (BPS-11), are presently working in the Statistics Division for the last 8 to 15 years on contract basis despite a decision of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and directives from Aiwan-e-Sadr and the Prime Minister Secretariat, they maintained.

The officials at the finance ministry disclosed the government plans to make jobless 308 contractual staff working with the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) and may opt for fresh recruitment. These employees wrote a combined letter to the presidency, the SC, the PM Secretariat and the AG, about their future.
